The next question was how does marriage differ in both countries?

In Greece Greek Orthodox marriage ceremonies are unique. They are filled with symbolism. Marriages are proceeded by a time of courtship. Greece has a history of interesting courtship practices including arranged marriages and dowries. Traditions incorporate many old customs that the Greeks have inherited for centuries. Greek brides wear traditional yellow and red veils. These are the colors of fire. It is believed that the colored veils protect the brides from evil spirits. Sometimes Greek brides carry a branch of ivory. This symbolizes endless love for your partner. Spitting at Greek weddings is considered a good gesture. It symbolizes good wishes for the couple.


In the U.S there wedding traditions are well known all over the world. There usually held in churches. Christian wedding traditions involve the major role of the priests. Attire forms an important part of Christian wedding traditions. The bride is dressed in dressed in a white gown and the groom is dressed up in a black suit.
