Rome, Italy The Black Death

Hello, This is Catherine reporting from Rome, Italy. Today I am reseaching the third on what is the Black Death. This was always an interest in me because this time wiped out alot of people and affeted the art. 3) What is the Black Death? The Black Death is the most devasting pandemic in world history. The other name of this pandemic is the bubonic plague. This pandemice killed about 30%-60% of the population in Europe. The Black Death started in China and moved to Europe by the means of the Silk Road. When some boats came over form China it carried rats that had infections and dieases. The symptoms of this plague enlarged lymph nodes which comes from the characteristic bubo which means enlarged. The victims had also headaches and nausea and fever of 101-105 degrees. People did not have any room to put all the dead bodies. Sometimes it got so bad that people piled the bodies outside in the streets that you could not walk outside because alone the smell would kill you.
The effect on art and music changed. The peoples attitudes change because of all the death. The depression showed though the art and the horrific pictures and paintings showed the true feelings of the people and the true beautiful art became nothing but death.

  1. The black death was not necessarily transmitted by rats. The black Death could have also been transmitted by Genoese when they were in a war with the Tartar, some of the Tartar died from it and they threw the infected bodies over the wall. The Genoese were infected and as they fled to Europe and infected others in the Process.

  2. Yikes. That is one deadly plague. From what I heard, the black death wasn't carried by rats, but by ticks on the rats. Maybe that's why people thought of the rats as the cause?
