Food and Meals in Liechtenstein

Guten Tag! Today, as part of my culture project, I'm here to tell you about the food in my country, Liechtenstein. Every day, we usually have three big meals. We start out with Zmorga, the American equivalent to breakfast, and that is often coffee and bread with jam. Lunch, which we call Zmittag, is eaten at midday and is the most important meal of the day. This meal consists of a main dish, soup, salad, and dessert. Our last meal, Znacht, is a light meal consisting of an open-faced sandwich with meat and cheese.

Although Liechtenstein is too small to have developed an extensive national cuisine, it does have some distinctive regional dishes. Törkarebl, made from porridge that is then fried to create a dump-linglike dish often served with elderberry jam, is one of our favorites, as is Hafaläb (a dish made with a corn- and wheat-flour dough formed into small loaves, then they are fried), and Käsknöfle (noodles made by squeezing a mixture of flour, water, and eggs through a perforated board, which are then baked with grated cheese and layers of fried onions. It's usually served with applesauce or salad.)

So until tomorrow, auf wiedersehen!

  1. These foods seem very different from the foods that we eat here in America. I really like the way you formatted this page.
